FT-Me: Toyota unveils a new vision for urban mobility

Toyota has unveiled its own vision for the future of urban mobility with the FT-Me, an all-electric two-seater vehicle that combines premium styling with affordability. Inspired by the success of the mobility solutions developed by the Japanese brand for the Tokyo 2021 and Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the FT-Me concept aims to meet the evolving needs of city dwellers and modern urban environments.

Although it measures less than 2.5 metres in length, the FT-Me offers generous space for its occupants. Designed with a strong focus on agility, it occupies just half a standard parking space, or even a third when parked perpendicularly. Its design, inspired by jet-style helmets, combines black and white tones to convey a sense of safety, solidity and nimble movement, while the large glass surfaces provide 360-degree visibility, ensuring maximum awareness of surrounding road users.

The FT-Me is accessible to anyone with a standard driving licence and, in certain markets, even to drivers as young as 14. It can also be operated entirely via steering wheel controls, making it fully accessible to wheelchair users without requiring any post-purchase modifications. Equipped with advanced connectivity features, the Toyota FT-Me allows seamless smartphone integration for keyless entry and a range of connected services.

Toyota has incorporated recycled materials throughout the FT-Me, aiming to reduce its carbon footprint by 90% compared to today’s city vehicles. Its highly efficient powertrain consumes three times less energy per kilometre than a typical large-battery electric car, while an integrated solar roof helps recharge the main battery, adding between 20 and 30 kilometres of daily range in urban conditions. As a result, it easily covers the average daily driving distance, often eliminating the need for plug-in chargin, especially for users living in sunny climates.

Embodying Toyota’s “Mobility for All” philosophy, the FT-Me embraces both younger drivers and those looking to downsize to a more compact and efficient vehicle, adapting seamlessly to the changing landscape of urban mobility.
