Forged in defeat
The GR GT’s story is interwoven with that of Toyota chairman Akio Toyoda, whose uncompromising vision, shaped by failure and humiliation, led to the creation of the legendary Lexus LFA. Toyoda continues to nurture a core of like-minded drivers and engineers, ensuring the “secret sauce” that made the LFA so special is passed down to each new generation.

The friendship that created a legacy

In the 1990s, Akio Toyoda and master driver Naruse-san were regularly overtaken as they drove the world’s great race circuits, humbled by faster cars. ‘No way Toyota could build a car like this,’ people told them. They were wrong.

Making Ever‑Better Motorsports‑Bred Cars

Akio Toyoda harnessed the power of that humiliation, using it to drive the development of the Lexus LFA. Later, it would also inspire the founding of TOYOTA GAZOO Racing and the creation of a series of thrilling GR sports cars.

Features
Driver‑Focused Design
Guided by three core principles, the GR GT is engineered to deepen the connection between driver and machine. A driver‑first connection that unites the two is essential, keeping the dialogue alive with every input.

A low-center-of-gravity package

The front-engine, rear-drive layout ensures precise control even at the limits. A relentless focus on lowering the centre of gravity led to optimised placement of every component, bringing the driver and the car’s centre of mass down to nearly the same level

Lightweight, highly-rigid aluminum structure

A light yet strong structure is fundamental to precision on road and track. The GR GT achieves this with Toyota’s first all-aluminium frame, reinforced with lightweight carbon panels in key areas, including the bonnet and roof.

Aerodynamic led design

With a top speed in excess of 320km/h, aerodynamic performance was a critical engineering requirement. Rather than designing the exterior first and compromising the aerodynamics to fit, the GR GT’s development began with the creation of an optimised aerodynamic form. Only then was the exterior design finalised.

Toyota’s Shikinen Sengu
The soul lives on
Shikinen Sengu is a Japanese tradition of renewal—the passing on of essential craft from one generation to the next. At the heart of Toyota’s sports cars, it ensures performance knowledge is preserved, evolved, and carried into the next generations.

A legendary bloodline

The three unveiled models position themselves as Toyota’s flagship sports cars, following in the footsteps of the 2000GT and Lexus LFA, embodying Toyota’s Shikinen Sengu spirit.
