Toyota builds high-performance models with roots in motorsport

Staying true to its vision of continuously improving its models through the experience gained in motorsport, Toyota relies on Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) as its development laboratory. Since its establishment in 2007, TGR has been testing and refining technologies under extreme racing conditions, such as those of the 24 Hours of Nürburgring, a race to which the team returns this year after a six-year absence.

This year’s participation will take place in collaboration with Rookie Racing, forming a joint team under the name “Toyota Gazoo Rookie Racing” (TGRR). The team will also compete in the Nürburgring Langstrecken Serie (NLS) and Japan’s Super Taikyu Series.

TGRR will compete with a GR Yaris equipped with Gazoo Racing’s new Direct Automatic Transmission (DAT). This system enables ultra-fast gear shifts, allowing the driver to focus on steering, braking, and acceleration. It will continue to be refined and developed through the demanding conditions of endurance racing.

At the same time, the mid-engine GR Yaris M Concept features a turbocharged 2.0-litre inline four-cylinder engine currently under development, combining high performance and efficiency with compact dimensions that contribute to a low centre of gravity. With the engine positioned centrally, the GR Yaris M Concept benefits from optimal weight distribution, ensuring precise handling and cornering performance.

Another project born on the track is the GR Yaris Aero Package, which embodies Toyota Gazoo Racing’s passion for driving and motorsport. The experience gained from the circuit is directly applied to the car’s development, resulting in a package with a distinctive appearance and aerodynamic focus. The model’s aerodynamic character is defined by its adjustable rear wing, new air vents on the fenders behind the front wheels, and two openings integrated into the lower section of the rear bumper. Additionally, a motorsport-inspired bonnet vent improves cooling performance, while a vertical handbrake is also included.

TGR’s track expertise also extends to the GR Supra, which reaches its ultimate expression in the A90 Final Edition. A series of upgrades, including KW adjustable suspension, a more responsive steering system, new 19-inch Brembo brakes, and wider high-grip tires, enhance the model’s dynamic character and driving pleasure. Furthermore, the power output has been increased from 340 to 441 horsepower, and torque from 500 to 571 Nm, resulting in quicker acceleration and a higher top speed of 270 km/h (up from 250 km/h).

All of Toyota Gazoo Racing’s global motorsport programs use sustainable fuels, with notable examples being the GR Yaris Rally1 (WRC) and the GR010 Hybrid (WEC), both powered by 100% renewable biofuels.
