TGR wins the World Endurance Championship title

TOYOTA GAZOO Racing concluded an exciting season with a victory in the final round of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) last weekend. The win also secured the team its sixth manufacturers’ title, proving once again that it has virtually no rival in this competition.

The Bahrain race was particularly significant for the Toyota team, as a victory was essential to retain the manufacturers’ championship. However, midway through the race, only one of its cars remained on track, running as far back as 10th position after experiencing several issues.

The No. 7 GR010 HYBRID, which had been leading the race, suffered a fuel pump issue, forcing Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi, and Nyck de Vries to retire from the event. The second car also encountered problems. The No. 8 GR010 HYBRID driven by Sébastien Buemi, Brendon Hartley, and Ryo Hirakawa was hit from behind by a GT-class car early in the race. Despite falling well down the overall order, the crew refused to give up.
After a heroic effort, the three drivers managed to bring the GR010 HYBRID to first place overall, securing the sixth championship title for the team in the series.

The chequered flag that fell at the final race in Bahrain marked the end of the 2024 season, which consisted of a total of 72 hours of racing across eight rounds, held on four continents over nearly ten months. The TOYOTA GAZOO Racing team achieved five podium finishes, including three victories and two pole positions, earning a total of 190 points.

After an exciting and memorable year, TOYOTA GAZOO Racing congratulates its drivers and extends its gratitude to all its competitors in the WEC Championship for their contribution to an unforgettable season.

In his remarks, Kamui Kobayashi, Team Principal and driver, emphasized among other things:

“Winning the World Manufacturers’ Championship is a great achievement and the result of an enormous team effort from everyone, including our colleagues at Toyota and our partners, who are a big part of this success. This is the result everyone in the team was striving for, and they gave everything to achieve it, so I want to thank them all for their hard work.”
