300 million Toyota vehicles

Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) has achieved a remarkable milestone, 300 million vehicles produced worldwide.

Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) has reached a cumulative global production of 300 million vehicles, including those produced in September 2023.

This milestone was achieved 88 years and two months after Toyota began manufacturing its first vehicles, the Model G1 truck, produced in August 1935 by the Automotive Production Division of Toyoda Automatic Loom Works, Ltd. (later known as Toyota Industries Corporation).

The Corolla remains the model with the highest total production, with the Corolla series reaching a cumulative 53.399 million units produced worldwide as of the end of September 2023.

Commenting on this remarkable achievement, Chairman and Master Driver Akio Toyoda and President Koji Sato stated:

Akio Toyoda, Chairman and Master Driver

“Kiichiro Toyoda once said, ‘The automobile business is something everyone does together.’
I believe that this figure of 300 million vehicles is proof of the tireless daily efforts of all our Toyota colleagues, our suppliers and dealers, all our other stakeholders, and everyone who came before us. Of course, our story did not begin with the completion of our first car.

The founding members faced repeated failures while building the first prototypes. Yet they never gave up, they kept trying, creating new prototypes again and again. Those efforts became the foundation of the Toyota we know today. In those repeated first attempts lies the beginning of our history.

Throughout our journey, Toyota has faced risks and challenges time and again. Each time, what saved and motivated us were our customers, the people who love Toyota cars. I believe this production figure represents the millions of individual stories of our customers.

Our customers chose Toyota vehicles as their partners in life, and through their stories we find inspiration to continue building cars to this day. The gratitude I feel toward them comes from the depths of my heart. I, too, love cars, and together, with all our colleagues who share this same passion, we will keep making cars, one by one, with care, attention to detail, and pride.”

Toyota President Koji Sato

“I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to our customers who have chosen Toyota vehicles, to everyone who has built each car with heart and soul, to our suppliers and dealers who have delivered them with care, and to all our other stakeholders and partners.

I believe this milestone of 300 million vehicles could only have been achieved through the tireless efforts of all our colleagues across the company, from those involved in the design and engineering of components and vehicles to those in production, logistics, sales, and service, along with everyone who supports each step of the process.

Our team members have overcome countless challenges. In recent years alone, we have faced many natural disasters, such as the Great East Japan Earthquake, as well as unforeseen events like fires, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the global chip shortage. Each time we faced the risk of being unable to build cars, everyone came together to restore and adapt our production.

We will never forget all those who have supported our automotive operations, and we will continue to give our utmost to keep making ever-better cars - bringing smiles to the faces of our customers around the world.”
