Toyota Cyprus unveiled the new Toyota Aygo X Hybrid

Toyota Cyprus held a press conference for the official presentation of the new Toyota Aygo X Hybrid on Wednesday, 4 February 2026, at the company’s showroom in Engomi, Nicosia, in the presence of representatives from the media.

The new Toyota Aygo X Hybrid marks a milestone for the city car segment, as it is the first full hybrid model in the A-segment. It retains the compact and agile character required for urban driving, while offering even greater efficiency, technology and economy.

The press conference opened with a welcome speech by Loukas Leonidou, who set the scene for the launch through the history and DNA of the Aygo: a “small car, big personality” model that has evolved over the past 20 years while remaining fun, youthful and accessible, and which today takes “another bold step forward” with hybrid technology, while staying true to its mission: to be accessible, practical and genuinely enjoyable.

In his statement, Loukas said:

“The Aygo X carries 20 years of character and fun-to-drive urban experience. With the new Aygo X Hybrid, we preserve this DNA unchanged while taking it to the next level: lower CO₂ emissions, more Aygo X experience - more modern technology, smarter everyday usability and even greater enjoyment in urban mobility.”

Next, Angelos Loizides, Product Manager, took the floor to present the model’s technical background and the key challenges faced by the R&D teams: integrating the hybrid system into the compact packaging of the Aygo X, maintaining its agility and driving dynamics, and maximizing efficiency.

The new Aygo X Hybrid retains its compact proportions through smart architectural solutions, while also delivering a significant performance upgrade, with a total output of 116 hp and acceleration from 0–100 km/h in 9.2 seconds, enhancing comfort, smoothness, and responsiveness in everyday driving.

In terms of efficiency, it achieves 85 g/km CO₂ and 3.7 l/100 km (WLTP), offering exceptionally low emissions and fuel consumption without the need for plug-in charging - making it ideal for the city.

Angelos stated:

“Integrating a full hybrid system into such a compact vehicle was far from straightforward - it was not simply a plug-and-play process. It required intelligent redesign and careful fine-tuning to preserve the Aygo X’s agility and fun-to-drive character. The result is a rare balance: more power and improved performance, combined with exceptionally low fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions, without the need for plug-in charging - perfectly suited for urban driving.”

Special mention was also made of the new Aygo X GR SPORT version, which combines a more dynamic design with sport-tuned suspension and steering settings, further enhancing the model’s fun-to-drive character.

Significant upgrades have also been introduced in the area of safety, with updated Toyota Safety Sense systems offering more advanced driver assistance and smarter day-to-day functionality. At the same time, Toyota highlighted its overall lifecycle approach to reducing environmental impact through new processes and materials that further strengthen sustainability.

Following the presentation, the official unveiling of the Aygo X Hybrid took place, giving attendees the opportunity to say “Fun to meet” to the new model up close, explore its design details, and learn more about the features that set it apart within its segment. A brunch followed, creating the ideal setting for networking in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

With the new Aygo X Hybrid, Toyota reaffirms its commitment to offering accessible electrified mobility solutions and redefining urban driving with a model that combines efficiency, character, and driving enjoyment.
