The 2.8-litre turbodiesel engine drives an electric motor-generator which charges the hybrid 48V battery, allowing for smoother and quicker start, which can be beneficial both in the city as well as when tackling off road terrain. It tops up the battery during braking and coasting and gives you the extra boost when you need it.

No. The Hybrid 48V* motor recharges itself as you drive, using engine braking to recover energy every time you come off the throttle. So it doesn’t need to be plugged in or charged – just refuel with diesel at the pump, as normal.
Hybrid 48V* uses a small electric motor and battery alongside the turbo-diesel internal combustion engine, to make your drive more smooth and efficient than a diesel engine alone. Unlike full hybrids or plug-in hybrids, it can’t run on electric power alone. It doesn’t need to be plugged in but it does need to be refuelled with diesel.
