Urgent reminder for the TAKATA recall – The Emergency Response Center will close on November 28, 2025

Toyota Cyprus continues its intensive efforts for the TAKATA recall campaign, focusing on used Toyota vehicles imported from third countries without European Whole Vehicle Type Approval (EU-WVTA). These vehicles were neither imported nor sold in Cyprus by our company. Therefore, this initiative remains entirely voluntary, aiming to maximize owner protection and ensure road safety.

To date, significant progress has been made with these used vehicles lacking European type approval. These results reflect our steadfast commitment to safety and responsibility, as well as our substantial investment in personnel, infrastructure, and parts supply, despite having no actual or legal obligation to do so.

The special Emergency Response Center established at the Cyprus State Fairgrounds in Nicosia will remain operational until November 28, 2025. Its operation is strictly temporary, as the Cyprus Government has set October 3, 2025, as the final deadline for the completion of the TAKATA recall.

A large number of airbags are already available, many of which were manufactured specifically in Japan. Several parts have even been shipped by air to ensure their timely arrival and the prompt service of vehicle owners.

However, if the available parts are not used before the deadline, part of the remaining stock may be returned to Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) to be reallocated to other countries or vehicles. In such a case, availability for the same vehicles — especially older ones — cannot be guaranteed.

To respond as efficiently as possible, specialized technicians from abroad have been temporarily employed to enhance the speed and quality of the recall process. This allows us to schedule appointments within just a few days and complete airbag replacements without delay.

We urge all vehicle owners who may be affected to schedule their airbag replacement immediately. Delays may lead to inconvenience, potential additional costs, or even the inability to service vehicles if the remaining parts are returned.

At the same time, we note that some third-party websites, even if accessible via the Department of Road Transport’s website, may not always provide fully up-to-date information. To avoid misunderstandings, owners are strongly advised to rely only on official notices issued by the Department of Road Transport and Toyota Cyprus, as well as the VIN numbers listed on the Department’s official website:
