The future looks great with an expanded powertrain line-up

The Toyota C-HR Prologue Concept refuses to compromise, going beyond expectation with Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) capabilities. Like the original Toyota C-HR before it, the Toyota C-HR Prologue Concept flips convention on its head. Optimistic and forward-looking, it previews a new Toyota ideally suited to an advanced PHEV powertrain, which combines versatile Hybrid power with pure electric driving.

Toyota’s PHEVs provide sufficient range for electric driving on daily commutes and local shopping trips. They switch seamlessly to their efficient and self-charging Hybrid system on longer journeys, for effortless travel free from range anxiety.

HEV Technology: self-charging power

Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) combine a petrol engine and an electric motor. They prioritise efficient electric power at low speeds, saving fuel and reducing emissions. The engine provides more power at higher speeds. What’s more, Hybrids are self-charging. The battery is recharged on the move by the petrol engine and via regenerative braking.

Plug-in Hybrids: all the advantages of a Hybrid… and more

Like Hybrids, Plug-in Hybrids combine an engine and an electric motor and are self-charging. However, PHEVs have a larger battery for extended periods of electric-only running at higher speeds. They can also be charged externally, either at home or using public chargers. Switchable driving modes let you choose between electric, engine and combined Hybrid power.

The future is coming – with extra attitude

Our Toyota C-HR Prologue Concept is a first – but very real – vision of a car that will soon be turning heads all over Europe. It stays true to the spirit of the original C-HR, defying convention and pushing ahead with Dual DNA Plug-in Hybrid power.
