About Toyota

Drivers

The Panasonic Toyota Racing team has 3 drivers of 3 different nationalities. They bring to the team their wide experience, deep commitment and exceptional competitive spirit.

Jarno Trulli (Race Driver)

Since his professional debut as a 22-year-old, Jarno Trulli, born in 1974, has made 181 Grands Prix starts. The 2004 season saw the greatest day so far in Trulli’s career, when he won from pole position at Monaco. Later in the season he joined the Toyota team. In 2005 he took seventh place in the World Championship, while Toyota’s best season yet saw the team finish fourth in the Constructors’ Championship. Points were harder to come by in 2006, but Trulli showed his speed in 2007 by qualifying in the top 10 on 14 occasions, with a best result of sixth.
2008 proved to be a breakthrough for everyone at Panasonic Toyota Racing. Jarno formed a formidable partnership with Timo Glock and fired the team back into the fight for podiums. This season will be Jarno’s fifth full season with Toyota and the foundations have been well and truly laid for future success.

Timo Glock (Race Driver)

Timo Glock was born in 1982 in Lindenfels, around 250 km from the Panasonic Toyota Racing factory in Cologne, Germany. Motor sports is the focus of Glock’s life both on and off the track. He began racing in karts and still enjoys a race with his friends. At just 22 he was a Grand Prix racer with an unexpected Jordan debut in Canada in 2004, coming seventh. He switched to the U.S. for 2005, where he won Rookie of the Year with a best finish of second. However, the lure of Formula 1 was too great and he returned to prove his credentials in GP2.
In 2008, he rounded out the season by scoring more points than Jarno in the final eight races of the season, highlighting the fact that Panasonic Toyota Racing has one of the best driver line-ups in Formula 1 today.

Kamui Kobayashi (Race Driver)

A new recruit to Panasonic Toyota Racing, 21-year-old Kamui Kobayashi has been part of the Toyota family for much of his motorsports life. At 14 he entered the Toyota Young Drivers Programme and got all the training he needed. Kobayashi moved to Europe in 2004 and spent two years in the Formula Renault Eurocup and Italian Formula Renault Championship, winning both in 2005. In 2006 he joined Panasonic Toyota Racing and competed at Barcelona and Jerez before returning to the Euro Series. Finishing fourth in the championship, he became the third driver with Panasonic Toyota Racing for 2008. Taking part in the GP2, Kobayashi won the Spanish GP2, the first race of 2008.
